Unit One Cover Sheet

ACADEMY PREP ELECTIVES

What is your thesis? My central thesis is that a balanced child must have electives in school. How did this particular argument come about? My argument came about because I see electives diminishing in school and I do not agree at all. Public school children are at a disadvantage to private school children because the amount of electives offered.

Who's your audience and what techniques do you use to make your writing speak to their concerns and interests? My audience is Oprah, fellow students, my parents, Head of School, myself, public school teachers, maybe my sister, definitely Dr. Conner, Barack Obama, and hopefully Madonna. = ) Myself, fellow students, professionals.

Upon reviewing your case study (and process), what aspect of your work (or it's process) most surprised you? What surprised me is that electives are being taken away. A place like Academy Prep exists! Academy Prep Center is a school serving as the bridge between public and private education.

Did you learn anything new while initializing your case study? Explain. Yeah! That a school exists for children who can't afford private school tuition. extend experience or add strength to what is already known through previous research. A school can be functional with funding through donations.

When you use secondary sources, how do those sources contribute to ethos, logos, or pathos appeals? Ethos because the spirit of the Academy Prep community is shown with all beliefs and aspirations. I address the atmosphere of the school and the mood it puts me in, excitement! Secondary sources do not appeal to pathos because in no way does this school want pity. Ethos is revealed through every interview because Academy Prep is a valued system.

When considering peer feedback as you revised your rough draft, which advice/suggestion/question/criticism/edit was most useful/helpful? We are entering the new age of education that is programmed for discovery rather than instruction.” Yes, this is true for some, but children with no means for creative possibilities have nothing to discover but a lack in life. Private school doors open to a world of endless possibility. It is mandatory that every child owns a lap top. Students hang their back packs on blue elephant shaped hooks that they decorated the week before. Monday is music class and piano lessons are on the schedule. Tuesday is physical education and the volleyball nets are in place. Wednesday is art class and pottery awaits. Thursday they choose between dance or theatre. Friday is physical education, the volleyball tournament championship. Public school doors open to strict curriculum and no loitering in the hallways. Monday is homeroom and half the class is present. Tuesday is computer class and the teacher shows The Matrix. Wednesday is drama class on an empty stage with decaying scripts no materials for props. Thursday is band with plastic recorders. Friday is art with, wait, there is no art class. To say we are in an age of discovery is true for some, only some, because do not have instruction or opportunity for discovery.

On your final version, where would you like to see the most feedback and attention from graders? Are they interested in my project? Why or why not? Would they want to send their child to this school? What do they find most beneficial?
