Community Literacy

What is a community?

What is literacy?

What is Community Literacy?

How do we obtain such information?

The four above questions reflect your thinking process and show that you are trying to play with the words to create meaning in your mind. Draws audience in, sort of a mystery to uncover...

In just viewing the words that I have typed above, I am sure that I can come up with serveralseveral answers to my questions. What is community?: first person will be removed during final evaluation. Suggestion: Cut out "to me" and start sentence with "A community is a group of people..." To me community is a group of people that share most of the same ideas regarding the physical, emotional, mental well beings of other within the same area. Now a days communities are formed online in blogging, facebook group, youtube, and are not necessarily in the same geographic area. Communities are formed in close quarters and technology draws communities, people, together as well. This would include a radius of about 10 or 15 blocks of your home or the many apartments in your apartment building or dorm. dorm: great use of rhetoric in remembering your college audience What is literacy?: I believe Friendly reminder to remove for future revision. that literacy is the combined effort to understand and reiterate information recieved. Received: I before E except after C or when sounding like A, as in neighbor in weigh

So what does that mean to community literacy. To me this means that a group of diverse individual take stock in helping and providing information to each other and outside sources and keeping a records of how to continue to help their fellow man.

Combining the terms--community and literacy--generates a definition: People help people, near and far, through recorded information although their personalities may contrast.

To continue community literacy you must not be afraid to give and receive information and be able to share that information. To progress, one must not be afraid...

In my opinion to obtain community literacy, you yourself must be abreast of your neigborhood news, city news, school news, state news and global news, because if you don't have that information you could be left out of the loop. Also how can you promote community literacy if you don't care about your community? Libraries, town meeting, voting..............

To obtain community literacy, one must be abreast (side by side) with neighborhood news. Also, how can one promote without passion?

Great evaluation! You analyzed from different points of view and taught me new words! I corrected grammatical errors. Remember that the final is written in a passive voice. Hello pancakes!

Pancake day is always a big deal in ...

Pancakes and Technology

As she stands in the kitchen with a black house dress trimmed with flowers on the bottom, I spin around in my chair. She turns around to pick up her pancake batter and pours a bit in the hot skilletOoo la la I'm hungry!.Mom….I want to ask you a few questions, I want to know your opinion about technologyMom, how do you feel about technology? What is your opinion? Let's talk? When you speak as writer, no need for quotations. Might consider chiseling out thoughts and focus on important detail and description pertaining to you topic. .In her usual response honey, I am sure you already know the answers to those questions. I know she has an opinion to she finally sits down to talk with me about technology.

In chimed her usual response, "Honey I am sure you already know the answers." Here I stop creating quoted description. = )

I like the kitchen, not only because I like to eat but it is a haven for human interaction.Great line. The first question asked her was compared to the technological advances of your day and the technological advances of today, what’s the worst and the best technology…in your day and today? Great reference of "in your day" and "today." Easily relate to this because most middle to senior aged people I know say "well, back in my day." lol. like it literally our OWN day = )In a very thoughtful voice she repliedwell, in my day = ) the “block sized cell phone was a good piece of technology. It was just nice to know that you didn’t have to wait to call someone. But it is a double edge swordGreat choice of comparison. I don't know what a double edge sword looks like but can understand because of the application. because no one talks to each other anymore. What happened to actually hearing some ones voice. ? Now it is all about text messaging and waiting. Boo! I know, waiting is the pits. In my day, I hated the answering machine. I think that if I call you and speak to you that means you heard what I need to say, but if I leave a message then unless you call me back I don’t know if you got my message or you are trying to ignore meDefinitely annoying . Ok, Mmom if that is true, then what do you do if you are on the other end. That’s the thing…sometimes you just don’t want to talk or be foundBOO! , like I said it is double edged. But I will say I do love the computer. It is quick and easy. It is good and strangeTies in "double" edge theme of two sides and it's great! at the same time that so many people are using and exploringDouble: using and exploring = ) the computer. The second question I asked was how do you use your favorite technology in your everyday use? Well like I said I love that computer. It helps me do my secretary job so much easier. More of story unfolds, creating character, great to mention this at this particular point of the text. And because I learned on typewriters "Typewriters"--Reflects on earlier use of 'in my day'... evidence the quickness of every thing is fascinating.Confirms she is ancient like my Mom and all students, most, in class. You are doing a great job keeping the audience connecting and maintaining that generational comparison. As you notice the world changing do you think it will go to total technology or stay divide between technology run and man run. ? That is creepy thought, Minority Report, Matrix, War of the Worlds--I want Marry Poppins and Meet the Jefferson's, good family working fun without machines! In addition, I suggest comparing the movies I just blew onto this paper, to technological change in media as well as conversation with Mom? Perhaps a paragraph, if you're feeling like there is relevance = ) There will always be a divide. The man created the machine, man has to watch the machine and man has to fix that machine when it is broken so I don’t think the world can or will be total technology. Great point. What if the machines start making machines? Ah! Here's a quote relating: A man might not understand electricity, but we know that a microwave can cook a man's dinner, and can also cook the man. Mom as I watched you come into your technological soundness you seem to have moved very effortlessly, with the right education do you think other people like yourself can transition smoothly? It is not just the education; it is all about the want to. There's the moral of the story! = )Everything is in the want to do something. Sorry if there is not supposed to be one. I do like the words of your mother, she seems wise and relaxed and living life through a progression of time. If you don’t want to learn you can’t learn. Is there anything that you want to say about technology? I like it and I deal with it. Just like this stove it went from a fire pit to a wood burning to gas and electric but they all make good pancakes, it is all about convenience. Great ending. I would enjoy reading more conversations between you and your mother.

I D E A

Create a Wiki friendly website for a bowling league.

P R O P O S A L

I propose a website for the St. Petersburg Bowling Senate because it is extremely important that the league be connected to other senates and a way to connect league members.

http://www.tnbainc.org/ (click here for more info on TNBA)

B U S I N E S S P L A N

1. Make sure that we find a website provider that is (free).

2.Make sure that space is user friendly

R O U G H D R A F T

After conducting an interview with my mother who is the senate secretary of the St. Pete senate, I learned that our league has not moved into teh technology age. After learning this I felt that the leage was doing an injustice to itself. knowing this I felt that as the older generations leave the league and it moves to a younger generation it will be behind the times and ris loosing the younger crowd due to lock of technology.

The St. Pete Senate spawns from The National Bowling Association formely known as The Negro Bowling Association. Since we are on the dawn of change as African Americans we need to be on the forefront of technology as other races. I find that this(website) is a good way to explore, expand, and exchange information. This will be a way to introduce the older generations to the younger generations. With this new found educationof technology and its many uses I think that it is my obligation to bring it to the league and others.

H O P E, D R E A M S, AND A S P I R A T I O N S

My hope for this project is that I teach somone the goods of technology, the few bumps that may occur, and how beneficial technology is.

My dream for this project is that we are a good example to other senates, also to each other, as African Americans we need to prove we are getting better. Also my dream is that this project helps me figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life.

My aspiration after this project is to have a better understanding of technology and my life in general. I want to somehow be better....
